WHO WE ARE: Established locally in 1911, Volunteers of America Northern California & Northern Nevada (VOA NCNN) is one of the region's largest providers of social services. Our professional staff operates more than 40 locally managed and delivered programs. Services include food and shelter, counseling, independent living and parenting skills, substance-abuse treatment and rehabilitation, and job training. Currently, VOA NCNN provides shelter or housing to over 3,500 men, women, and children every night.

PROGRAM AND LOCATION: VOA, a Certified Great Place to Work, is recruiting for a (Regional) Director of Operations position for VOA-NCNN. Full-time employees (working 30 or more hours a week) are eligible for a benefits package that includes paid holidays, vacation, sick pay, health, dental, vision, life, and short-term disability insurance coverage.

 

 

Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

The (Regional) Director of Operations is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the operational infrastructure, processes, and resources needed to meet the goals of Volunteers of America. This role ensures the efficient functioning of the organization, supporting program delivery, managing daily operations, overseeing financial and administrative processes, and contributing to strategic planning and execution. The Director of Operations will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer, program directors, managers, and other key stakeholders to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic objectives.

 

OBJECTIVES/ACTIVITIES:

A. Operations Management

1. Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficient and effective processes across all programs within the region.
2. Manage and improve operational systems, processes, and policies to support program delivery and organizational growth.
3. Establish and maintain SOPs for operational activities to ensure consistency and quality.
4. Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning initiatives and long-term goals.
5. Manage and execute special projects and organizational initiatives that support growth and innovation.
6. Establish and monitor KPIs, tracking organizational performance and addressing areas for improvement.
7. Continuously identify opportunities to improve client, staff, and organizational outcomes.

 

B. Financial Oversight and Budgeting

1. Work with the finance team to develop and monitor annual budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
2. Oversee financial reporting, compliance, and risk management, ensuring accurate documentation and accountability.
3. Lead efforts to streamline financial processes and increase operational efficiency.

 

C. Human Resources Management

1. Hire, develop, motivate and hold accountable a team of up to 12 Program Directors & Managers.
2. Ensure program compliance with employment laws and organizational policies.
3. Foster a positive workplace culture aligned with the organization’s mission and values.


D. Facilities and Technology Management

1. Collaborate with the Facilities Director to meet the site and facility needs pertaining to maintenance, grounds, security, and janitorial services.
2. Lead efforts to optimize the use of technology in support of operational goals, ensuring data security and infrastructure stability.

 

E. Compliance and Risk Management

1. Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations, industry standards, and organizational policies.
2. Manage organizational risk by implementing effective safety protocols and ensuring proper documentation.

 

Qualifications

EQUIVALENT EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, nonprofit management, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of 5 years in nonprofit operations management or a comparable leadership role, with a track record of driving results in a growth-oriented organization. Strong financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and interpreting P&L statements. Demonstrated experience in HR functions such as talent acquisition, staff development, and employee retention. Proven success in project management, process improvement, and operational efficiency initiatives. Experience working/overseeing housing services, homeless programs, veteran programs, and/or senior properties is highly desired. Experience or knowledge of California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM) and supportive services is highly desired. Comfortable with technology and software tools used in operations management; experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems is a plus. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; capable of presenting complex information clearly and working collaboratively across departments. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities; detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Willingness and ability to travel throughout Northern California and Northern Nevada. This position requires CPR and First Aid training within ninety (90) days of employment date and re-certification as necessary and T.B. testing annually. Must have a valid Driver License and ability to meet organizations insurance carrier guidelines required.  

 

Pay Range

USD $120,000.00 - USD $140,000.00 /Yr.
